Re: How Do I show An Image?

For what it is worth, I understand your frustration. I too have many times been frustrated by how to use 3rd party systems, and then again by not getting help from the community surrounding it. I sort of felt in your post what I too have experienced many times. So I think both your reaction and that...

Re: How Do I show An Image?

I agree with you that stuff like this is basic and should be covered in some kind of documentation. My suggestion is to make a "Cookbook" or "How-to" section in the wiki and fill in this as the first recipe. I and others will add to it and refer to it when more questions arise.

Let me be the first to congratulate and cheer! I've always preferred Python to Lua and I love to see my favourite projects moving on and ahead!

Re: Name confusion

Oooo! Code conventions question! First, questions about how to structure your code will inevitably result in forum wars. Be warned! :) Now, the first question you should ask is not "what are the rules?" but rather "how will I make my code as understandable as possible?". If you h...

Re: Problem with Image's clipping

Have you checked if something devious is happening in the tree class? The reason I'm asking this is because it a 3:rd party hatchet job giving everyone headaches and suicidal impulses and is not actually considered part of the stable CEGUI package but rather something that can't be done away with un...

Re: StaticText Debug vs Release

No problem, I had a similar problem when I started with CEGUI too: I searched for a simple, basic label widget and couldn't find one. This situation with not having a fast and basic label widget will likely change in a coming version of CEGUI, so keep your eyes peeled and feel free to discuss things...

Re: StaticText Debug vs Release

Well, name to the contrary, StaticText isn't a very fast component and as I understand it is slated to be revamped in an upcoming CEGUI revision. See CE's answer to a related questions for suggestions how you can get what you need:

Re: API breaking consistency fixes intended for CEGUI 0.8.0

When I started with CEGUI I too was confused by the "falagard" thing, and I am still not comfortable with it. It seems to indicate that there are two different CEGUI "things" without a clear-cut distinction between them, but at the same time today CEGUI is falagard, or falagard i...

Re: CEGUI+Custom memory allocator

From my experiences with nedmalloc, when you get the code stable it should probably be the default option. Nedmalloc seems very robust and highly efficient, it is the default iirc in OGRE, and seems to be increasingly used used in both open source and big-budget commercial software so any errors sho...

Re: CEGUI+Custom memory allocator

Posting to show support: I favour nedmalloc because it is highly efficient and with very small footprint, and from a quick look at your patch it seems like a well-designed solution (caveat: I am not well versed in the CEGUI internals!).

Re: API breaking consistency fixes intended for CEGUI 0.8.0

This Being a Little Essay About the STL and Abbreviations in Symbols except it isn't... std::vector? boost::lexical_cast? IMO it's an unnecessary change... and since CEGUI::Class case in your little list isn't used in CEGUI at all and since CEGUI is an acronym, I don't see the reasoning behind this...

Re: API breaking consistency fixes intended for CEGUI 0.8.0

I like this discussion. Very constructive and creative. I also think Kulik's template suggestion is attractive and might contribute elegance to client code. Regarding the namespace, standard libraries use lowercase but cegui::Window just looks hideous, doesn't it? I seriously don't care though...

Re: API breaking consistency fixes intended for CEGUI 0.8.0

The "CEGUI" vs "cegui" namespace thing IMO is not a 'consistency' issue; rather it's something that some people don't like. Genuine consistency fixes are one thing, making breaking changes for no real reason is another, given this, I seriously doubt that this will be changing ;)...

Re: API breaking consistency fixes intended for CEGUI 0.8.0

About namespaces: I agree with that a lower-case namespace is to be preferred . I very rarely see any namespaces using upper case characters, and when I do I frown and mutter. Nested namespaces can be a menace , though. Sometimes they are useful, but very rarely. I generally only use them when (1) ...
