[SOLVED] Building for Ogre 2.1 (Windows VS)

I am currently trying to build for Ogre v2.1 on visual studio on Windows. My Cmake errors (for default) are at the bottom.

Which branch should I be using? I tried v0-8 and while it found Ogre, I got a bunch of errors when building the OgreRenderer in visual studio. I read somewhere it worked with Ogre 2.1 OpenGL renderer, so I thought I'd try it before making a post.

I tried default and couldn't figure out how to tell Cmake where Ogre was (or OIS). I tried setting the environment variables like you do for 0-8 but it still couldn't find Ogre. Did it have something to do with the ogre framework path setting? It found OIS, but not Ogre. Something to do with Ogre_Include_Dir.

I am going to use the Ogre direct x 11 and GL3plus renderer. I do not know what directories to set these options to.

Any help here is greatly appreciated. If I figure out a fix, I will post in this thread. Thanks.

Might need to do this for default branch though and not 0.8.X. Not sure which one works best with latest Ogre, the latest Ogre support is purely based on user submissions.

Well, I did set the OGRE_HOME and OGRE_SDK system variables, and they worked and Cmake found Ogre with v0-8, but the default branch Cmake script couldn't find ogre. The default script DID find OIS however, I just used the OIS in the Ogre dependencies.

I could get to the CEGUI VS project with 0-8, but I couldn't build the ogre renderer project, said some functions or classes were missing. Couldn't build the default branch.

The default branch script couldn't find Ogre but the v0-8 one did? And it was the same Ogre version? That is very weird.

Yeah, I thought so too, so I made a thread. I am inexperienced (so who knows what it could be), but its not that I used different versions of Ogre, i only have 2.1 on my system.

I actually tried to build default first, and had found and followed the directions you linked for 0-8 hoping it would work. When it didn't I tried to build 0-8 and it built, but I guess 0-8 doesn't work with 2.1 because all but the ogre renderer vs project built :(

If it helps, I switched the findogre.cmake script from 0-8 with the one in default, and when I built default again it found ogre but the resulting projects didnt work (duh). I will spend a little time on this here and there, but I honestly don't have much of a clue where to start figuring it out and I am newish to all this. Maybe in a few months I will figure it out :D

Default branch uses the official Ogre CMake file. Maybe there is a newer one that you can try? Just replace cmake/FindOgre.cmake to try.

Tried the one from my Ogre 2.1 build, didn't work.

I'm using the Windows 10 SDK on windows 7 with visual studio 2017, ogre 2.1 and cegui branch default.

I don't know if the direct x renderer will work in practice, but I should at least be able to build CEGUI default right? I built v0-8 but I think it wouldn't compile because I was using Ogre 2.1.

Maybe the newer cmake script uses something my system doesn't have/is incompatible with? The one that ships with defualt is 5kb bigger than the one with v0-8.

Do you use an up-to-date cmake version? can you paste the error messages and also the cmake error log?

The log talks about pthread, but the build errors I got as cmake built said it couldn't find ogre. I posted in an earlier post what it said in the error box of the cmake gui. Admittedly I just read that and didnt even look at the logs. :oops:

so what would be making it not able to find pthread?

Seems to be some issue with the CMake config. I don't think that's our main problem here. Most of all, I do not think it has anything to do with Ogre at all.

So let's go back to step 1 :)

Did you open Cmake GUI and did you filter for OGRE_INCLUDE_DIR ?
What is inside that variable?

I would double check every field that is relevant for Ogre two or three times each time you click configure. Really, it is all about tghese, and you can just fill them in by yourself anyway.

Well, in the GUI there is no OGRE_INCLUDE_DIR, when I filter for OGRE there is the checkbox for CEGUI_BUILD_RENDERER_OGRE, and then there is a OGRE_FRAMEWORK_PATH, and a bunch of individual paths for different systems of OGRE, like overlay, paging, rendersystems, etc.

I tried setting the framework path to my ogre directory (and build directory) and I even tried setting the direct 3d 11 renderer path to what I thought it might be in the ogre library but no dice.

Any idea what the framework path option does/should be set to/if its even important?
