Layout Editor and Images

Postby Evak » Wed Apr 11, 2007 20:55

I've been using the layout editor for a couple of days and for the most part it's very nice. The one problem I do have is with Images.

Is there any way to load images into paramaters. I have looked at staticimage and imagebuttons but can't get it to load images. I have to do this manualy in xml.

Problem with this is that if I need to change the layout in the editor after manualy coding,I loose all the image data that the editor does not appear to support.

Thought I'd ask incase I'm missing something, seems to be a pretty important feature.

ok it seems that if you create a imagebutton manualy you can load it into the layout editor and it works and saves out correctly.

You can't create new imagebuttons and set their images though. I found that I could cut and paste my imagebuttons. However I did notice a bug.

So long as I copy and paste my image button within the same framewindow the button pastes and can be dragged within the framewindow with the LMB.

However, if I paste the same button into another framewindow, the newly pasted buttons scales when I drag with the left mousebutton instead of moving. (I have checked that I wasn't dragging handles or anything).

The other odd thing is that movement and scaling is inverted from what you naturaly expect it to be. So it scales to the left if you left drag the buttton to the right.

Since I typicaly want to create pixel perfect non scaled and blurry UI's it would be nice to be able to lock a gadgets scaling. e.g. If I have made my buttons cluster of buttons all 32x32 pixels and want to add more but need to stretch the framewindow. all my cluster of nine direction buttons get scaled too. This requires a huge ammount of time to rescale all the buttons to their correct aspect ratio etc.

Other than these issues its a really nice start, and is slowly becoming more stable. I tried the layout tool last summer and gave up on it. Great to see a considerable ammount of progress on it.

Remains to be seen just how useful it is in its current state, since all these odd scaling issues cause a lot of frustration.

I made a video to illustrate the problem I am having.

the first half shows a frame window where all movement when dragging is reversed, whilst in the other window it is fine.

second part, I copied a button from the framewindow that works ok, and pasted it in another framewindow, when I try and drag the pasted button it uniform scales instead.

see 1.5mb .WMV video file.

anyway, having stuck with it for a bit, the editor is a lot better than I had originaly feared :). Once you get to grips with a couple of oddities with how it works it really is quite useable.

Sorry for reading this thread after replying in the 'editor problems' one. The movies show some weird stuff though... but apparanely you are now able to use it to your needs, although maybe a little unintuitive sometimes... ;)
