As this was a very boring thing to do, I'll share it with the rest of you ;)

With this function injecting KeyDown and KeyUp events to CEGUI works like you'd expect.

     Translate a SDLKey to the proper CEGUI::Key
 CEGUI::uint SDLKeyToCEGUIKey(SDLKey key)
     using namespace CEGUI;
     switch (key)

Usage is like so:

 SDL_Event e;
 while (SDL_PollEvent(&e))
     if (e.type == SDL_KEYDOWN)
         CEGUI::uint kc = SDLKeyToCEGUIKey(e.key.keysym.sym);
         CEGUI::System::getSingleton().injectChar(event.key.keysym.unicode); /// For this, you need to make sure you have called SDL_EnableUNICODE(1); at some point in your code _after_ the call to SDL_Init
